A mosque in the Umarari town on the
outskirts of the city of Maiduguri has been attacked Wednesday morning
by two female suicide bombers during morning prayers killing 22 rescue
officials say. Abdul Mohammed of the State Emergency Management Agency has said that at least 17 people were wounded and evacuated to the hospital.
An escapee Umar Usman
who was late for the morning prayers said, “We were just a few meters
away from the mosque when a loud bang erupted and all we could see was
dark smoke and bodies littered around.”
According to TIME, Abba Aji,
coordinator of the civilian Vigilante Group said, “One bomber blew up
inside the mosque and the second waited outside to detonate as survivors
tried to escape”
This is the first attack on Maiduguri since Dec 28th, 2015.
